Welcome Note #8

Wow, it is 2023! To those of you also born in the 70’s, I share your perplexity reading dates marked twenty twenty something. As kids, this decade was portrayed as the far, far, far away future and wild estimations of flying cars and robotic everythings where the visions we were sold.

In present day it doesn’t seem quite that scary and ‘futuristic’. There is rapid change all around but it is constant and we have grown to expect it. As this inevitable change happens, we must also continue to look at ways to pause, reevaluate, and explore. For the New Year I wish you patience and bravery as you take on your new unknown.

One of the industries that really showed growth during the pandemic…besides food and disinfectant wipes…was Real Estate. In this issue we focused on this topic, from building your dream home from scratch, to buying a property and renovating it, we tackle it all. In the past two years global citizens had a moment to pause and take note of their life goals and what truly contributed to daily peace and happiness. After remote work became the norm, people all over world realized that commuting to and from a 60+ hour workweek in a big city was perhaps not as glorious and satisfying as they once believed. Some took the opportunity to temporarily or permanently move to locations with a better balance for their families. For many who were waiting for the perfect moment to own a second home or investment property, their search became an immediate priority. There was huge interest in Real Estate globally and Barbados with its stable government and spectacular beauty got more than it’s share of international attention. It is because of this global shift we decided to create this issue to help people from around the world understand the opportunities in Barbados.

Thank you to the local industry professionals who shared their time and expertise and thanks to the many homeowners that gave us access to their homes… and wine…as they told us the story of their homes.

For those of us lucky enough to call Barbados home, I encourage you to take time this year to appreciate our amazing island, the pace of life and the richness of our communities that so many around the world are seeking. To all of our readers near and far, I hope you enjoy this issue and your dreams are always in Barbados.
