I’m sure we can all agree, ‘X’ is the most powerful letter in the alphabet.
My teacher would put an ‘X’ in my work book to show me where I was wrong, and I thank her for those lessons. If my ‘X’ hadn’t broken up with me I would not have met my wife. My wife always ends her notes to me with an ‘XXX’ to show that there is nothing greater than her love.
Hundreds of thousands of ‘X’s recently determined the future of our country and our economy.
But— it doesn’t end here.
Y?
Now that the people have exercised their constitutional right and displayed the power of a well placed ‘X’, it is critical for the electorate to continue exercising their rights as the true CEOs of this country.
We the people must hold our leaders accountable for the promises that were sold and bought to bring them to power. Feet must be held to the fire to ensure that we do not inherit old promises with no delivery.
Our leaders must have an all-encompassing outlook— to manage the affairs of our country by extracting the “magic” from our most creative and brightest minds, irrespective of political or social affiliation.
It is your responsibility to find your “X” factor and bring it out in your children. The youth have the most significant role to play— please eXpound the importance of their voice and eXtract that passion from within yourselves.
It is only when we allow the power of our ‘X’ to live within us everyday that we will not only hold our leaders accountable, but ourselves accountable. Every man, woman and child will then understand the importance and value of their contribution to Barbados.
Let us not find ourselves at such a dire X-roads again.
